Bliss Coulthard, winner of the '26 International Art Prize

London winner Bliss Coulthard is an East London-based watercolour artist whose layered, emotive paintings explore memory, femininity and the complexity of personal experience. Bliss was selected by judge Katy Wickremesinghe, Founder of The Wick and Trustee at the Royal Academy and Dulwich Picture Gallery.

About the Prize

The International Art Prize is free to enter open call for drawing and painting running simultaneously across London, New York and Paris, founded by Winsor & Newton and Paul Smith’s Foundation. Three winning artists are chosen by a notable local industry representative. This year’s theme is: ‘Making an Impression’. 

About the process


Becoming was painted using Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolours and Art Masking Fluid watercolour medium. Bliss selected a beautifully curated palette of colours from washes of Paynes Grey, to Prussian and Winsor blues, with details in Perylene Violet and Alizarin Crimson.
